A White Starburst Floral Headpiece
Floral Design Spotlight · Passionflower Sue
Tiny white flowers create a surprisingly large shape in Passionflower Sue's headpiece. The interest comes from the space between them as much as from the flowers themselves.

Read the outer silhouette first
The flowers spread outward around the head rather than forming a tight band. That broad outline makes the piece feel like a burst of light, even when viewed from across the room.
Repeat one small shape
Similar little white faces appear throughout the design. Their repetition connects the scattered points, while the gaps keep the headpiece from reading as a heavy, solid crown.
Allow the clothing to be quiet
The dark, simple outfit gives the pale flowers a clear background. We can see individual stems and branching lines, which would be harder to follow against a busy pattern.
Try the idea in your own style
Draw a head-and-shoulders outline, then place small dots around it to explore a starburst. Vary their distance from the center. This is a composition exercise, rather than instructions for constructing or wearing the piece.
This is our suggested design exercise, not the creator’s recipe or a reconstruction of their method.
