Dark-Centered Flowers Along an Ornate Fireplace Mantel

Floral Design Spotlight · The Rose Shed

A gilded mirror could easily dominate a room. Here, The Rose Shed gives it a generous floral companion, with dark-centered flowers and branching foliage spread along the white mantel below.

Use dark centers as stopping points

The pale petals around several dark flower centers stand out among the greens and muted pinks. Those little circles draw attention in different parts of the display without needing a bright new color.

Let the outline lift at the ends

Taller branches reach upward toward either side of the mirror. The center remains lower, so the flowers sit beneath the reflection rather than forming one high barrier across it.

Keep some of the architecture visible

The white mantel gives the flowers a clear horizontal base. Its decorative details remain readable below the arrangement, allowing the floral texture and the room’s carved surfaces to complement one another.

Try the idea in your own style

Draw a long, low arrangement under a mirror. Add a few dark circles inside pale flower faces and raise the branches toward the outer edges. Check that your drawing still leaves a clear central area above the flowers.
