Purple and Orange Dahlias in a Little Window-Side Bowl

Floral Design Spotlight · Jenni Bloom Flowers

A small bowl can hold a lively mix of colors and heights. Jenni Bloom Flowers brings purple, peach and dark burgundy dahlias together with lighter pink faces near a studio window.

Let a dark flower add depth among bright colors

The deep burgundy head sits among purple and orange flowers near the middle. Its darker surface gives the lighter petals a point of contrast without making the whole grouping feel dark.

Raise a few simpler faces above the fuller heads

The little pink faces sit higher on fine stems. Their open spacing gives the upper edge a lighter feeling than the tightly petaled flowers gathered close to the bowl.

Keep the vessel smaller than the flower spread

The little pale container is mostly tucked below the heads. Its low profile lets the flowers create the main outline, spreading out beside the window rather than rising as a narrow column.

Try the idea in your own style

Arrange a few rounded flowers low in a small bowl or vase, then add one fine-stemmed flower a little higher. Try a dark accent beside your brightest bloom. Look from across the room before deciding whether the grouping needs anything more.
