Golden pothos: Plant Profile and Care
Golden pothos — Epipremnum aureum. Golden pothos is a trailing or climbing foliage plant with heart-shaped leaves. It is useful where you want a vine to soften a shelf edge or grow along a support, with space for the stems to develop.
Light and placement
Bright, indirect light is the preferred starting point. NC State notes that it can tolerate lower light, although low light can reduce visible variegation.
Water and growing medium
Use a well-drained medium and let it dry between waterings. Root problems can develop when the medium remains excessively wet.
Choose a trailing or climbing display
The plant may trail from a container or attach to a support with aerial roots. Pruning can help manage the outline as the stems lengthen. Golden pothos is Epipremnum; the similarly named satin pothos belongs to a different genus.
Choosing the plant for your space
Compare the identity on your plant label with the botanical name above. A pot diameter identifies the container offered for sale; it does not establish the plant’s mature size or a named cultivar. Before choosing a permanent place, consider the light there, the available room and how you will check the growing medium. The source links below provide further botanical context.
