Pepper — Capsicum annuum. Capsicum annuum includes sweet, hot and ornamental peppers. A generic plant offer does not establish heat level or whether a particular ornamental selection is intended as food.

Light and placement

Full sun.

Water and growing medium

Use rich, moist, well-drained soil and maintain even moisture.

Keep the cultivar label

NC State records wide variation in fruit shape, color and heat. Check the actual cultivar and intended use before choosing a growing position or a food use. Plant outside after frost risk passes and avoid unnecessary root disturbance.

Choosing the plant for your space

Compare the identity on your plant label with the botanical name above. A pot diameter identifies the container offered for sale; it does not establish the plant’s mature size or a named cultivar. Before choosing a permanent place, consider the light there, the available room and how you will check the growing medium. The source links below provide further botanical context.
